ABUJA – The national working committee of Accord Party, on Tuesday, affirmed that Kennedy Iyere is the official governorship candidate for the upcoming 2024 Edo Gubernatorial election.
This confirmation cames in the wake of misleading statements from Mr. Bright Enabulele, who allegedly claimed to hold the position.
In a development that caused a stir within the Accord Party, Mr. Enabulele, the deputy governorship candidate, had presented himself as the governorship candidate.
The party leadership quickly stepped in to correct the narrative, stating that Iyere was the legitimate candidate, having won the primary election on February 17, 2024.
The party also confirmed that Iyere’s candidacy has been properly registered on the National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal, with Enabulele listed as his running mate.
Barr Maxwell Mgbudem, the National Chairman of the Accord Party, expressed his concern over the confusion.
“The dissemination of incorrect information, especially regarding something as significant as the governorship candidacy, is unacceptable. We must maintain the integrity of our democratic processes,” he emphasized.
The party’s top brass also called for unity and truthfulness in political discourse.
“In these critical times, it is paramount that we present a united front to the voters. We must ensure that the information we share is accurate and truthful,” added Mgbudem.
In an official statement, Hon. Joseph Omorogbe, the National Publicity Secretary of the Accord Party, further denounced Enabulele’s claims.Related NewsGlobal Citizen Now returns to New York in May with Kagame, other world leadersCrypto king, Sam Bankman-Fried sentenced to 25 years in prisonLabour Party crisis: Abure-led NWC disowns BoT
“We are committed to upholding the democratic values of our party and the nation. We urge all concerned to disregard the erroneous claim,” he stated.
Omorogbe reiterated the party’s stance and called on all members and the public to support the duly nominated governorship candidate, Kennedy Iyere, as they gear up for the elections.
The party also urged political actors to adhere to ethical standards and to be cautious with their public statements to prevent any potential misinterpretations or conflicts within the political landscape.
